Even by the name, the ‘Valley of Flowers’ sounds like a place out of a fantasy. And it is! This place is a giant chromatic Phoenix that is born every year in summer and lives most of her life in rains. Then, goes into a deep sleep for winters, only to born again next summer. In this article, we will see how the landscape of the valley changes with time and what is the best time and season to visit valley of flowers.
The Valley is snow-clad for most of the year. The snow starts to melt in April. Seeds, which were put down by plants last year, starts germinating during this time. The Valley begins her new life cycle as an infant, but it will be accessible only from June to September. The best time and season to visit Valley of Flowers is between July and August during the Indian Monsoon.
Valley’sAdolescence – June
It’s the month of June. The snow is melting rapidly, and small plants have started to grow. But, it’s still more glaciers and fewer flowers around the landscape. However, the Golden Lily is blooming in the valley. It will survive till the second week of July.
The track between GovindGhat and Ghangaria is full of pilgrims, ponies and porters. But, there are some advantages to visiting the park during this time. It isn’t raining too much in June, and therefore, fewer chances of landslides. Also, it’s a great time to see glaciers and snow.
Valley’s Youth – July and Early August
We’re in July now. The holiday season ends and Hemkund Sahib has fewer tourists. The flowers have taken over the valley but the glaciers aren’t gone completely.
The Valley of Flowers National Park is in her full bloom. There is a lot of greenery and eye-catching chromatic blanket of flowers around the Valley. In the first couple of weeks, significant glaciers are still visible, but it’s the best time and season to see full bloomed lilies, geraniums, and the rare Ladies Slipper Orchid in the Valley of flowers.
We are on the banks of River Pushpawati in the mid of the July. We see a blanket of pink EpilobiumLatifolium flowers. Valley will change her appearance quiet frequently during July and August. In the third week of July, we see the scenery painted with violet geraniums. But by the first week of August, the geraniums mature and the valley will have ImpatiansDavendre transforming the scenery in pink.
Valley is a mother – Later half of the August month
In the coming weeks of August, we will see flowers getting converted into seeds. The Valley is bearing them to nurture herself for her next life next year.
We’re now in the last week of August. The valley has started to change from lush green to yellowish green. But you can see some flowers and berries still maintaining the vibrancy of her beauty.
The last month of color– September
Valley of Flowers National Park remains colorful throughout her active life. It’s September and there are more berries than flowers. But the sky is clear, there are fewer rain clouds and the peaks are snow-clad again. For people who don’t like rains, this can be the best time and season to visit Valley of Flowers.
And the cycle continues….
Snowfall starts in October and the valley is closed officially for general public. Our Phoenix is now going in a slumber just to wake up as an infant again in Maynext year.
